The state Department of Environmental Protection has posted details on its planned black bear hunt from Dec. 5 to 10.
The hunt, as usual, has generated considerable controversy, with several groups challenging it in court, according to the New Jersey Press Media Statehouse Bureau.
An estimated 3,400-plus black bears live in the hunting region, which is west of Route 287 and north of Route 78 in the state's northwest corner, according to the DEP.
DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife biologists predict a bear harvest similar to the 2010 hunting season, with about 7.5 percent of permit-holders killing bears, according to the agency.
